Once again, Direkt36’s journalists have received one of the most prestigious Hungarian journalistic awards, the Transparency-Soma Prize for the best investigative story of the year. The two winners are Szabolcs Panyi and András Pethő, who revealed the details of an unprecedented secret service infighting in a story that was published in December.
They shared the Soma Prize with Zoltan Jandó from G7. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him.
This is not the first time these two colleagues have received this award. Szabolcs won the Soma Award for the fifth time (three of them as a staff member of Direkt36), which is unique in the Hungarian press. For András, this was the third time to win.
Last year, our colleagues Zsuzsanna Wirth and Kamilla Marton received the award for their series of articles on the real dangers of hospital-acquired infections.
Another work by Szabolcs was also nominated in the shortlist of articles highlighted by the jury this year. It was a piece on the role of Gáspár Orbán in the Chad military mission, which he wrote together with Jean-Baptiste Chastand from our French partner the Le Monde.
This recognition is for our supporters too. The winning article could not have been written without the help of our supporters. It is our members’ community that allows us to put the time and effort into this work, with complete freedom and independence. If you’re not a supporter yet, please join now.
